WJHSD Celebrates Veterans Day

West Jefferson Hills School District  |  Posted on

On November 11, in honor of Veterans Day, our students and staff participated in several tributes and observances throughout the district.

The elementary and intermediate students wore red, white and blue and helped to build a Wall of Honor to celebrate Veterans. They also learned about what it means to be a veteran and created heartfelt “thank you” posters to recognize those special veterans in their lives and community.

At Pleasant Hills Middle School, over 50 veterans were honored with a special virtual tribute video and Wall of Fame. This special tribute included interviews from staff members sharing their own personal experiences and heartfelt thoughts as well as student interviews providing veterans the opportunity to speak first hand about what it means to be a veteran.

Huge thanks to the PHMS Tribute to the Troops Committee members, Mrs. Kolenda and Mrs. Haselhoff, for their support in recognizing our veterans, and Mr. Lauso for putting together the virtual tribute for our local veterans!

Thomas Jefferson (TJ) High School students celebrated Veterans Day by hosting a special drive-thru breakfast to show their gratitude and appreciation for local veterans. Despite the pouring rain, several car loads of veterans came out to receive a breakfast treat and coffee served to them by members of the TJHS National Honor Society, Student Council and History Club.

TJHS teachers Mr. Corbin and Mrs. Scears put together a Tribute Wall to honor TJ veterans and U.S. veterans for students to learn about their stories and their sacrifices to our nation. Students can view the veteran posters on the wall and read more about them by scanning a QR code on the poster for more detailed information about the veterans.

It was a wonderful day of learning and celebrating our Veterans for their service, dedication and sacrifice!
