The Preston Area School, a small rural K-8 school in the Wayne Highlands School District, has adopted and integrated the House System this school year. This system, which is a traditional program in many different types of schools, requires that every student and staff member is selected into a House. Students learn values for friendly competition, supporting their own House members and the other Houses within their school, as well as striving for goals related to House and personal achievement. Staff members are able to link expectations for their students to House points, develop positive school-wide incentives, and recognize individual students for their achievements with a high-energy Wheel Spin assembly. Early feedback has been positive, with students demonstrating improved manners, engagement and school spirit.
