Our Schools and Homes in Education (SHINE) program hosted a daytime summer camp for students in grades K-5 in the Palmerton Area School District. This program ran from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, during two weeks in June. Our program provided the students with breakfast and a take-home lunch each day. We focused on skills the students had learned during the school year as well as summer STEAM projects.

One project all our students did this summer was to make a tie-dye towel. Towels were supplied for all of the students. Students needed to look at measurements to make sure their name would fit on the towel. Then they used duct tape to write their name on their towel. They chose the different colors and designs they wanted to use to color their towel. Once they had a design in mind, they were set to tie-dye. Each student took home their own uniquely designed and colored towel.
