Students present science research in competition

On Saturday, Feb. 22, nine students from United traveled to Slippery Rock University to compete in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science regional competition.

Over 350 students attended the competition. Students presented their research project to a panel of judges. Each presentation was judged based on their scientific thought, experimental methods, analytical approach, and presentation.

Abby Nibert, Emma McAnulty, Sophia Naugle, Paiton Steiner, Jared Bloom, Zoe Mack, Hannah Detwiler, and Alaina Popovich all received a first place award.

They will now travel to Penn State University in May to participate in the state competition. Jacob Brown received a second place award Abby Nibert, Emma McAnulty, and Alaina Popovich received a special award for their research projects.
