Students raised seedlings that are planted in the district’s new Wildlife Garden

Smethport Area Junior-Senior High students are working together to create a Wildlife Garden in the school’s courtyard for native birds, butterflies and plants. Students and teachers started plants from seeds inside the classroom and are planting perennial and food-bearing native plants, such as sunflowers, in the garden’s raised beds. Technology education students also have built birdhouses and bird baths that will be installed near the raised-bed garden. The space is designed to be attractive as well as beneficial for local wildlife. Students are exercising their science and construction skills while creating a beautiful and helpful space!
