Service projects reinforce kindness and generosity

Ferndale collected supplies for the military in addition to other service projects this year!

This year, as in years past, we have come together for the sake of our community and participated in service projects schoolwide at Ferndale Area Elementary School. This year, we completed several projects that were very successful and demonstrated how strong of a commitment our students have in helping others. In December, we created cards that were delivered to the various nursing homes. In January, we collected hundreds of items that were sent to military personnel overseas. In February, we created Valentine cards for nursing homes. In March, we collected items for the Humane Society in our area. In April, we created Birthday bags of food items that went to a local food pantry to help others celebrate. In May, grades 4 and 5 placed over 2,000 flags at the graves of veterans as a way of helping a local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) center. We sold paper bears to raise money for our local charity, Cuddles for Kids, as well as participate in Color a Smile, a program that helps to distribute happy colored pictures to those who could use a pick-me-up. The lessons learned about treating each other with kindness and giving of ourselves is as priceless as learning your ABCs.
