Head Start and Salisbury Township SD prepare children for learning

Head Start of Lehigh Valley’s Classroom in Harry S Truman

Salisbury Township SD is collaborating with Head Start of the Lehigh Valley to ensure that children and families develop not only school readiness skills, but also positive home/school connections. Head Start of the Lehigh Valley offers a comprehensive educational program for children ages 3-5 years old designed to prepare children and families for kindergarten. Harry S. Truman Elementary School partners with Head Start through teacher home visits and classroom workshops for parents that encourage parent/child participation. At one particular workshop, literacy was the focus. The guest reader was Mulligan, the therapy dog, and his handler. Not only did the workshop provide an opportunity for families/parents to support their child’s learning in the classroom, but it also developed positive professional relationships between the teaching staff and the school personnel at Harry S. Truman Elementary School. In this way, a smoother road is being built for both parents and children transitioning to kindergarten at Harry S. Truman Elementary School.
