Salisbury middle school students connect globally
Students at Salisbury Middle School had a unique opportunity to collaborate with other students around the world. The Global Read Aloud was created to connect students and teachers all around the globe using one book. Since its inception, the Global Read Aloud has motivated more than two million students to share ideas, make personal connections and learn about different cultures while having fun reading aloud, creating, writing and collaborating with one another. During the six-week program, students learned effective communication and critical thinking skills, created connections and increased engagement through Skype sessions, slow chats with classes all over the world, tweeting with the author, webquests and blogging. Teachers also used the program to enrich classroom strategies, such as close reading, Skype manners, collaboration methods, and writing for different purposes and audiences.
