‘RocketsRun’ provides for student needs

A team of faculty and staff at Rockwood Area School District participate in an annual event called RocketsRunForKids, an impressive 150-mile relay race on the Great Allegheny Passage Trail. The event raises funds for the Kids Come First and The Rocket Fuel Backpack Program — two initiatives that serve the needs of students in the district.

In the relay, participants take turns running 20-mile stretches until the whole distance has been covered over about 24 hours. The Rockwood School Board donated funds to cover the registration cost for the team to run, and some students also made donations. However, most of the funds raised come from team sponsors. According to an article in the Daily American, proceeds go to the aforementioned nonprofits, which provide children in need with everything from winter coats to fuel oil to shoes to nutrition food throughout the year. This year’s goal is to raise $10,000.
