This August, Pennridge High School was notified that it is now officially a National Banner Unified Champion School – the first school in Bucks County to reached nationally approved status! This designation is awarded by the Special Olympics to schools that have demonstrated commitment to inclusion by meeting 10 standards of excellence. Pennridge’s inclusive programming, including track/field and bocce teams, youth leadership and whole school engagement activities, contributed to this honor. Unified coaches and club advisors Angela James and Christine Fehnel, special education teachers at Pennridge High School, have engaged 50 students in either the club or the sports teams.

In an article in the Bucks County Herald, Pennridge Superintendent Dr. David Bolton said, “Unified Sports has made a tremendous impact on our school and community. It is more than just running track or playing a competitive game of bocce; it teaches all our students the importance of getting involved and being inclusive of others in all areas of their lives.”
