A 900-gallon canvas water tank, programmable robots, and a vinyl cutter are just a few of the tools Hopewell High School students have access to in the school’s Maker Workshop. Funded by a grant from the Allegheny Intermediate Unit, the center is home to Hopewell’s SeaPerch team – a group of students that work together to design, build and navigate an underwater robot. The team, which has the opportunity to compete against other SeaPerch groups, is sponsored by the U.S. Office of Naval Research. According to the Beaver County Times, Hopewell won the SeaPerch Pittsburgh Northeast Regional Competition and will head to the national challenge in late March. In addition to fostering the robotics team, the Maker Workshop is available for teachers to bring their classes.
