Charleroi Area School District’s Harvest Bounty program has received a $30,000 grant to continue its mission to help feed kids when they are not at school, according to an article in the Mon Valley Independent. Part of the No Kid Hungry” initiative, the Harvest Bounty program supplies food to more than 200 students in the district on weekends and holiday breaks. The grant, funded through the Neighborhood Assistance Program, was announced in August by officials from UPMC Health Plan and the Department of Community.

The Harvest Bounty program started in 2014 when teachers collected and distributed food to 40 middle school students on weekends. The next year the elementary school was added. About 240 students now benefit from the program, which is supplied by donations from residents, organizations, churches and businesses.
