WCES Students with Completed Cookie Cutters

Waynesburg Central Elementary School opened their new smART Space by hosting the first “smART Space Family Activity Night.” Fifty-two third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students, along with a family member of each student, attended this event. Two sessions were held due to the overwhelming response received for those wishing to attend the event. In the smART Space Room under the direction of art teacher Mrs. Kelly students and family members learned how to use the computers to create a cookie cutter to be printed on the 3D printers. In the Waynesburg Central Elementary School cafeteria, students and families created “Sugar Cookies in a Jar” to take home with them to make cookies as a family and utilize their self-created cookie cutter made using the 3D printers. WCES teachers and high school students also volunteered with this event. Refreshments of cookies, hot chocolate and chips were furnished by the WCES PTA. While in the cafeteria, families created crafts and ornaments to donate to the Waynesburg Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. The WCES Band delivered the ornaments and crafts on December 20, 2018 when they played for the residents and staff at the Center.
Through the use of the smART Space and the Family Activity Night, students were able to spend time with a family member, learn new technology and create an item to give back to the those in the community–all while having fun!
