Video game enhances students’ learning ability
LeTort Elementary School students have been exercising their bodies and their brains to maximize learning. The school has been implementing a program called “Activate” that was created by Yale School of Medicine professor Bruce Wexler. The program is a two-pronged approach to improving the executive functions of children in elementary school. LeTort has participated in numerous studies which show that students are performing more successfully on assessments.
The game-based Activate program incorporates both physical and mental exercises in order to stimulate the brain for learning, enhancing students’ ability to easily switch tasks, memorize sequences, categorize items and develop thinking strategies. LeTort was recently featured in the Yale Daily News for its work with Activate.
